Greenmarket Discussion on Brian Lehrer

One statistic I caught from a video clip shown in the program

"7% of "our" farms sell 70% of our food, and collect the majority of farm subsidies offered by the US government."

I guess we should consider them "our" farms since anyone that pays taxes is sustaining all the large farms the accept them!

We used the term "organic" to describe Windfall Farms before the United States Department of Agriculture began its national organic certification program. It set a lower standard than the original certifiers, allowing large industrial farms to be called "organic" while maintaining many unethical agricultural and labor practices. We no longer endorse the term, but still endorse many organic farms and organizations that hold themselves to higher standards.

We suggest you don't trust the term "organic" to mean you are getting any combination of local, fresh,poison-free food, which incidentally is what we grow and sell.
